About the Project
The project's purpose was to cultivate active bystanders. The challenge was proposed to us by the staff of the The Melissa Institute for Violence Prevention and Treatment which was created “make a difference by working to prevent violence and assist victims.” The goal is to “Tackle Domestic Violence & Help Prevent It” by showing people that they can make a difference on others’ lives by becoming active bystanders and speaking up.
Concept
The prototype concept is an ad campaign to promote awareness and give a voice to those affected by domestic violence—victims, their family and friends, professionals, etc. It would likely take place during Domestic Violence Awareness month in October and would preferably be placed in a busy location such as a college campus or city center. This would help increase the number of participants.
The concept would include an interactive digital ad sign attached to a privacy booth where people can enter and share in storytelling.

Melissa Institute Feedback
Overall, the feedback was positive. And for next steps, it was suggested that further interviews with other mental healthcare specialists would be helpful in figuring out how to best present and utilize the sharing booth. How and when this type of booth and its workings are presented need further investigation and ideation to make it appropriate and most beneficial.
